Hallux Valgus or more commonly known as "bunion" is a deviation from the big toe towards the second toe. This leads to a deformation of the front of the foot. The big toe is no longer aligned with the rest of the foot and causes udoes not deform the joint forming a bunion. Once this deviation is installed, walking worsens Hallux Valgus day after day. The big toe then loses its role of supporting the body and propelling it. This role will then be performed by the other toes causing painful symptoms.
In 95% of cases it is women who are affected because of the wearing unsuitable footwear. Shoes that are too pointed, too tight or too high heels are to be avoided… Hallux Valgus is sometimes hereditary, people with Egyptian feet or flat feet are often affected.
A bunion gradually forms on the side of the foot at the joint. Pain will then arise at the edge of the foot and will follow the appearance of calluses on the soles of the feet, dorsal corns but also skin complications and even osteoarthritis ... Changes in habit and a treatment must be implemented quickly.

Medical treatment will not cure the deformity but will help relieve it by reducing the pressure on the bunion. How? 'Or' What ? By choosing wide shoes suitable for walking and practicing rehabilitation sessions, or by wearing an orthosis ... If these treatments fail or more seriously if the situation becomes complicated, surgery becomes compulsory. In other cases, if the pain becomes too persistent or if the deformity becomes too great, surgery is also necessary.
The surgical operation will consist in correcting the misalignment of the big toe outwards. This will help to remove the pain and restore the big toe to its role of propulsion and support. Walking is possible the day after the operation with suitable shoes. A period of rehabilitation is then necessary in order to recover all the flexibility of the joint.
