Standard 20345! We are talking about safety shoes. When standardized 20345, safety shoes have a shell resistant to 200 joules. But what are we talking about when we talk about joules?
What does the “joule” unit of measurement correspond to?
Joules correspond to a force of pressure, an energy. Defined by several variables, the pressure force is evaluated using the weight of an object and the height of fall it could make. Joules have no equivalence in kilograms.
The greater the height of the fall, the higher the speed of the moving object. This means that the higher an object falls, the higher its energy. Depending on the height of the fall, the same object can have a different pressure force, it is this force which is measured in joules.
How heavy are the standard shoes 20345 ?
If the Safety shoe is standard 20345, its protective cap, its shell, steel or composite, withstands a pressure force of 200 joules. This means that a 20 kg object falling from a height of 1 meter will not injure the foot wearing the EN 345 shoe. The shoe will then withstand a crush of 1500 kg.
Warning: If you are the victim of an object falling on your feet and the shell of your shoe has protected you, take care to change your pair of shoes because the protective toe may have been damaged. Your shoes then no longer meet the standards. It is imperative for your safety that you change your shoes.
